CelcomDigi, U Mobile and ZTE deploy 360° cameras with remote virtual reality broadcast at SUKMA 2024

August 20, 2024

PUTRAJAYA, 20 August 2024 – From Putrajaya to Petra Jaya! With SUKMA 2024 kicked off in Sarawak last week, Minister of Communications, YB Fahmi Fadzil had the opportunity to immerse himself in the atmosphere of Stadium Sarawak, from the comfort of his office in Putrajaya, via a Virtual Reality (VR) headset, powered by 5G-Advanced (5G-A).

This was made possible through a collaboration between CelcomDigi and U Mobile, with technology partner ZTE Corporation, to demonstrate the power of 5G-A in enabling digital innovations.

Several 360° cameras fitted are within the sports arena to provide an Extended Reality (XR) experience through a VR headset. Viewers can get an immersive 360° view of the sporting action with the stadium in real-time. The 5G-A enhances the XR experience by expanding the reach of virtual reality and immersive augmented reality applications and cloud gaming experience. It offers users a superior XR feature while on the move, enabling a high-data-rate experience.

Besides the 360° cameras with remote VR broadcast, the trio’s strategic collaboration has also deployed 5G-A technology to present the nation’s first-ever 5G-A live broadcast from the Opening Ceremony of SUKMA 2024 in Sarawak to viewers across the nation through Radio Televisyen Malaysia (RTM). For broadcasters like RTM, it is the first time where they are able to capture the best footage, all via a wireless ecosystem offering them more flexibility and ability to do real-time coverage. The industry partnership was also recognised by the Malaysia Book of Records for achieving the fastest mobile speeds at 30.8Gbps with 5G-A during a live trial conducted in Kuching, Sarawak.
