CelcomDigi equips public to stay safe and connected during natural disasters

November 6, 2023

PETALING JAYA, 6 November 2023 – CelcomDigi Berhad ("CelcomDigi") is taking extra measures to keep communities safe during the monsoon season by equipping those living in flood-prone areas with handy tips through its flood preparation toolkit.

The simple infographic contains steps that can be taken before, during and after a flood. It also details useful tips on preserving the mobile phone battery and other do’s and don’ts during a flood, such as wearing solid shoes, not to drive into the flood waters, and closing all windows or entryways to reduce flood water damage to homes, among others.

People living in flood-prone areas are advised to stock up on essentials in a grab-and-go bag ahead of the floods. This includes basic supplies such as food, water, clothing, and medication, as well as electrical necessities like a fully-charged device, powerbanks, torchlights, and spare batteries.

The refreshed toolkit will be helpful for early preparation and quick mitigations while staying safe. Available in both Bahasa Malaysia and English, the floodkit will also be accessible via Celcom Life and MyDigi apps and CelcomDigi’s social media platforms.

Network preparedness and on-ground support to keep communities connected

CelcomDigi is dedicated to fostering inclusive climate change mitigation and adaptation strategies. In addressing climate-related physical risks such as flooding, the company has proactively adopted measures to strengthen network resilience. Efforts include raising network structures to prevent equipment from submerging in floods and preparing power generators and mobile base transceiver stations to reduce connectivity disruption. CelcomDigi’s operations teams are on standby 24/7 to be quickly deployed to affected areas.

To keep affected communities connected, Fixed Wireless Access (FWA) units have been stationed at flood-prone regions to be deployed to relief centres for internet connectivity. In collaboration with the Malaysian Relief Agency, relief vehicles and boats have been deployed to access areas that are severely affected to help stranded victims.

With these ongoing efforts, CelcomDigi hopes that the public would take necessary measures to be prepared in case of floods.
