CelcomDigi allocates RM2 million for nationwide flood emergency response

PETALING JAYA, 5 December 2024 – CelcomDigi Berhad ("CelcomDigi") has allocated RM2 million to provide essential support for impacted communities in flood affected areas across the country.

The company’s efforts so far comprise of providing essential personal and household supplies, connectivity at Pusat Pemindahan Sementara (flood relief centres), and various other recovery assistance, to benefit close to 7,000 families.

CelcomDigi is working with the Malaysian Relief Agency (MRA) to expedite the deployment of aid to those affected. The company has also enabled MRA with four-wheel drive (4WD) vehicles, rescue boats and volunteers, and essential equipment such as mobile charging stations, water and jet pumps, kitchen sets, and generators to support relief efforts. These are being deployed to severely affected areas to aid stranded or displaced families.

Other community initiatives to date include:

  • Providing WiFi connectivity via Fixed Wireless Access (FWA) units, allocating for up to 200 flood relief centres.
  • Proactively elevating network structures at flood-prone areas to protect the radio and electronic equipment. Operations teams are also on standby 24/7 to mobilise power generators to base stations in flood-hit areas.
  • Broadcasting over 200 Flash-SMS alerts in collaboration with the National Disaster Management Agency (NADMA), reaching over 2.5 million in flood-prone regions nationwide.
  • Published a flood-kit in both Bahasa Malaysia and English. These contain important safety guidelines to create awareness on recommended actions before, during and after a flood, and are available via CelcomDigi’s social media platforms and on the Celcom Life and MyDigi apps.  

CelcomDigi is focused on maintaining service reliability to ensure customers in flood affected zones stay connected and that its retail partners can continue serving customers with minimal disruption. The company will continue working closely with the government, industry, and relief agencies for coordinated efforts to maximise outreach and to assist as many affected families as possible.
