PENANG, 13 August 2026 – CelcomDigi Berhad (“CelcomDigi”) is proud to have rolled out another successful edition of the MY5G SME Digital Workshop for small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in the Northern region. Currently in its fourth year, the programme has positively impacted more than 3,000 local entrepreneurs.
At the heart of the programme is CelcomDigi’s commitment to empower local SMEs with practical digital skills and access to tools crucial for growth in the digital economy. Newer formats have also been introduced this year to further support SMEs in their various business lifecycles. For early-stage businesses, modules focus on building good digital presence while established enterprises are exposed to various technology solutions easily adapted to daily operations.
Held in 14 locations across Malaysia, the Northern leg kicked off this week with participation from more than 300 SMEs. Along with CelcomDigi, partners for the programme Funding Societies Malaysia, Swipey, CTOS Data Systems (CTOS), CardUp, Majlis Amanah Rakyat (MARA), Small Medium Enterprise Development Bank Malaysia (SME Bank), Bank Pembangunan Malaysia Berhad (BPMB), SME Corporation Malaysia (SME Corp), Small and Medium Enterprises Association of Malaysia (SAMENTA), Digital Penang, Onsmo Lighting Malaysia (Onsmo), and TikTok Shop Malaysia.
Feedback from participants on the workshops has also been very encouraging. According to Puan Noor Shamsiah bt Mohd Farouk Marican and her husband, Encik Mohd Hasnizam bin Abu Bakar, the owners of Dapur Bakar Ayam Goreng Kunyit, “We had been struggling to reach new customers online and did not know where to start. The workshop gave us practical ideas we could apply immediately, particularly around content and social commerce. It helped us see how digital tools can solve a real challenge for our business, rather than simply being another technology to adopt.”
Both Puan Shamsiah and her husband took part in last year’s digital workshop in Penang. They started their business in Penang with a humble three-wheel cart and have since expanded their operations to 13 outlets nationwide. Their businesses are also proud customers of CelcomDigi’s Business Postpaid and Fibre solutions, benefiting from reliable and trusted connectivity.
In addition to the workshop, the programme also combined market visits to multiple locations including Pasar Awam Bagan Ajam and Pasar Awam Sri Muda in Penang, as part of Skuad 5G Edisi SME. The session facilitated engagements with more than 110 business owners to understand their needs and challenges.
Chief Enterprise Business Officer of CelcomDigi, T Kugan said, “SMEs do not need digitalisation to be complicated. They need solutions that address challenges such as reaching new customers, managing cash flow, creating content or finding the right partners to grow. Which is why our workshops are focused on providing practical knowledge, open access to industry experts and hands-on learning on how technology can transform business for better.”
He added, “Our on-ground engagements are equally important because they bring conversations directly to business owners. This is important in helping us make digitalisation more relevant, accessible and actionable for Malaysian SMEs.”
