Future Skills For All (FS4A) training empowers educators in Selangor to be future ready

June 11, 2025

PETALING JAYA, 11 June 2025 – Advancing Future Skills For All (FS4A) – Selangor Scale Up, the expanded phase of the national FS4A programme, is being rolled out in Selangor to strategically equip teachers with the tools to teach digital literacy and train their peers from other schools. The statewide initiative conducted in collaboration between the Ministry of Education (MOE), UNICEF Malaysia, CelcomDigi Berhad (CelcomDigi), Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC), Google, and powered by Arus Academy, aims to strengthen the digital skills foundation in schools and prepare teachers and students for an AI-driven future.

Officiated by Menteri Besar Selangor Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari, the Advancing FS4A–Selangor Scale Up marks a significant step in the state’s commitment to digital excellence. This programme is designed to empower educators, ensuring they remain at the forefront of innovation and ready to inspire the next generation in an evolving digital world.

Introduced in 2020, FS4A programme has since grown into a vital learning platform via DELIMa with over 2 million page views and over 270,000 users nationwide. Its success reflects the increasing urgency of equipping educators and students with digital skills that are essential for both today’s classrooms and tomorrow’s workforce.

In Selangor, the programme funded by Google is tailored to address real needs on the ground, beginning from schools in the education districts of Gombak, Petaling Utama, Petaling Perdana, and Klang, with a three-phase rollout from June to September this year. Selected teachers of Computer Science and Design & Technology subjects as well as District Education Officers will be upskilled and trained to co-lead digital workshops for fellow teachers in their districts. The aim is to create a multiplier effect across schools, especially in underserved and near low-cost housing areas.

In Phase 1, 48 teachers will undergo a one-day intensive session to become Master Trainers within their districts. These Master Trainers, with the support of the District Education Officers will then co-lead Phase 2 by conducting hands-on digital skills workshops in 10 schools each in their respective districts, reaching over 120 teachers and students across 40 schools from July-August. In Phase 3, these trained teachers will implement FS4A training materials in the classrooms, resulting in over 13,000 students across 88 schools being digitally equipped. Participating schools will receive grants to run school-based digital learning projects tailored to their students.

Arus Academy director and co-founder, David Chak said, “Coding is undoubtedly an important asset for students as digital skills become the fundamental of future workforce. Arus has committed to supporting the government’s initiative to incorporate coding into the education as early as 2017 when coding was first introduced in the national curriculum. We believe true education transformation will only happen when the ground level implementation meets national policy direction and is supported by a strong public-private partnership. Therefore, in the FS4A Selangor implementation, we are training teachers and will select 12 schools as the pioneering cohort of FS4A Cultivator schools to receive further training and personalised support from us.

CelcomDigi CEO Datuk Idham Nawawi said, "In today’s digital-everything era, Malaysia must invest in building a digitally agile workforce capable of sustaining the nation’s ambitions for the next two to three decades. By empowering educators and students with vital digital skills and ensuring equitable access to technology and opportunities, and through strong partnerships like this, we will continue to drive digital inclusion across the nation, building a vibrant digital ecosystem that empowers every Malaysian.”

Anuar Fariz Fadzil, CEO of MDEC added, “As Malaysia progresses toward becoming a leading digital nation, empowering our educators and young learners is critical to driving this transformation. Through the MDEC Cikgu Juara Digital programme, 150 dedicated teachers have been trained in the FS4A modules, impacting over 4,000 students by equipping them with essential, future-ready digital skills. FS4A not only strengthens the capabilities of teachers and students but also nurtures a culture of innovation within school communities. This initiative is a powerful example of public-private collaboration creating a meaningful, scalable impact and we are proud to expand this effort in Selangor. MDEC remains steadfast in its commitment to inclusive digital education, ensuring that all regions, from rural areas to urban centres, are equipped to thrive in the digital economy.

Azlina Kamal, UNICEF Malaysia’s Education Specialist and Lead, “The way we design and deploy technology in education will determine whether we truly leave no child behind. It must be built with children at the centre—anchored in the principles of equity, inclusion, and sustainability. By empowering children to become creative changemakers and confident problem-solvers, by equipping teachers with the innovative tools and training they need, and by reaching the most marginalised learners, we are not just reimagining education—we are transforming lives. FS4A is more than a programme; it is a bold promise and a shared commitment to every child in Malaysia that their future matters. It brings to life a new vision for education—flexible, inclusive, and deeply relevant—ensuring every child can thrive in a dynamic, interconnected, and digitally forward future."

As the digital landscape continues to evolve, so must the methods to prepare teachers and students. Through this collaboration, partners are building a sustainable model for digital education — one that is inclusive, practical, and scalable. The kickstart in Selangor marks a key step towards expanding FS4A Scale Up programme to benefit more schools across Malaysia.
