CelcomDigi’s Trust Circle drives vital discussions on trust and responsible data practices

May 8, 2025

PETALING JAYA, 8 MAY 2025 – Global studies clearly show that trust in digital services is a vital tenet for consumers, a sentiment fueled further by the rapid rise of AI technologies. Proactively addressing these concerns, cross-industry leaders and experts convened at the third edition of CelcomDigi Berhad (CelcomDigi)’s Trust Circle forum today.

The forum aims to foster deeper discourse on promoting responsible data practices across organisations, and collectively safeguarding our digital future in an increasingly AI-enabled world. It comes at a pivotal time as Malaysian businesses and institutions tackle major reforms from the Personal Data Protection (Amendment) Act 2024 and adopt robust data governance practices.

The forum featured a diverse lineup of experts namely Farlina Said, Director of Cyber and Tech Policy, Institute of Strategic and International Studies Malaysia; Shamsul Izhan Abdul Majid, Chief Executive Officer, National AI Office and Serene Kan, Partner in Intellectual Property & Technology Practice Group, Wong & Partners. They shared valuable insights on navigating the complex and evolving privacy landscape in Malaysia, significance of new regulatory requirements, and strategies to build trust amid the rise of new technologies.

CelcomDigi's Chief Corporate Officer Joachim Rajaram, “Through the Trust Circle, we’ve brought together a strong ecosystem of multi-sector experts, and our focus now is to tackle the trust challenges of emerging technologies. From shaping policy to embedding ethical AI, every player in this ecosystem has a role to play. CelcomDigi’s Trust Circle forum brings together an ecosystem of experts from public agencies and the private sector, underscoring the company’s commitment to building a resilient and trusted digital future for all Malaysians. Insights and partnerships from this forum will continue to drive greater learning and adoption of global best practices in safeguarding privacy, enhancing data governance, and reinforcing public trust as Malaysia navigates an increasingly complex digital landscape.

Measuring public awareness on data privacy

CelcomDigi is also taking steps to measure public awareness on data privacy. The company recently launched a comprehensive National Privacy Awareness Survey 2025 to gauge Malaysians’ understanding of basic privacy, their rights and they way the handle their personal data. Data and insights obtained from this survey will help policymakers, regulators, businesses, and consumer advocates identify gaps in awareness, tailor education campaigns, and strengthen data protection practices to better address public concerns and build greater trust in Malaysia’s evolving privacy landscape.

Malaysians aged 18 and above are encouraged to participate in this survey to gauge their data privacy knowledge. CelcomDigi’s National Privacy Awareness Survey 2025 is accessible HERE and will be closed on 30 June 2025.
