CelcomDigi’s MY5G SME Digital Workshop empowers MSMEs in Sarawak with digital skills

Kuching, Sarawak, 4 September 2024 – CelcomDigi Berhad (“CelcomDigi”) recently held its second edition of this year’s MY5G SME Digital Workshop in Kuching in a bid to support Sarawak government’s effort to drive the digital transformation of micro small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) in Sarawak. This is in support of Sarawak Government’s efforts to develop digital-ready entrepreneurs across the state as part of its aim to be one of the leading digital economies in Malaysia.

In its second year, CelcomDigi MY5G SME Digital Workshop was specially designed to support MSMEs’ digitalisation efforts with the knowledge of 5G-powered technologies, digital solutions, practical strategies and tools that can help them start their digital transformation journey as well as helping businesses thrive in an increasingly competitive marketplace. The half-day event provided opportunities for participants to gain insights and learn first-hand from industry experts of different backgrounds, each offering unique perspectives on digitalisation. The Kuching edition was held in collaboration with Omnicom Media Group, Sarawak Pay, SME Corp, TikTok Shop, Touch ‘n Go eWallet, Lazada and MyTani with more than 200 MSMEs from Sarawak attended.  

As the host of the workshop in Kuching, CelcomDigi’s Chief Enterprise Business Officer Afizulazha Abdullah said, “We’re all here today with a common goal, that is to harness the power of technology and digital innovation to drive our business forward. We’ve brought together a line-up of partners from diverse industries to share actionable insights and real-life examples that can help propel your businesses in this digital era. We hope you would be inspired by the knowledge exchange and discourse as you progress in your digital transformation journeys.”

Omnicom Media Group’s Chief Strategy Officer, Kiron Kesav kicked off the digital workshop with insights on the latest digital trends and how MSMEs can leverage these innovations to boost their business performance.  

Julyskristin Poly from SME Corp shared about the various government initiatives and support available to help kickstart MSMEs’ digital transformation journey, while Aiman Mohamad from Touch ‘n Go eWallet discussed the growing importance of digital payment systems and how it can be integrated into business operations. Teoh Hua Thong from Sarawak Pay echoed Aiman’s views, highlighting the role of local digital payment platforms in enhancing business efficiency. Cherise Ling from TikTok Shop showcased how MSMEs can capitalise on social commerce and content-driven strategies to engage with a wider audience.  

To date, through the MY5G SME Digital Workshop events held in Kota Bharu, Alor Setar, Penang, Johor Bharu, Kota Kinabalu and now Kuching, CelcomDigi has met more than 1,000 MSMEs who were keen and eager to learn and start their own digital transformation journey. The digital workshop provides opportunities for the participants to gain insights and learn first-hand from industry experts from different backgrounds, each offering unique perspectives on digitalisation.  

This MY5G SME Digital Workshop is part of the CelcomDigi MY5G Series, which includes a three-part MY5G CEO Series programme and the MY5G SME Conference to help create awareness on the benefits of digitalisation as well as 5G adoption and applications amongst the business communities in Malaysia. The next event to take place will be the first CelcomDigi MY5G SME Conference 2024 on 5 September 2024 in Subang Jaya, Selangor.
