CelcomDigi partners Malaysian Relief Agency to aid flood victims

February 14, 2024

Deploys pre- and post-flood efforts to help families in high-risk areas

PETALING JAYA, 14 February 2024 –CelcomDigi recently partnered with the Malaysian Relief Agency (MRA) to deploy relief aid to families affected by the recent floods. The company contributed essential items and equipment worth over RM670,000, benefitting some 6,000 families.

In ensuring those affected remain connected during the floods, power charging stations and WiFi units were deployed to several relief centres in Kelantan, Terengganu, Pahang, Kedah, Perak and Johor. Standard kitchen utensils and canopy sets were also deployed to MRA, who assisted in preparing hot meals for those at the relief centres in the six states.

Several initiatives have been rolled out as part of driving preparedness in the recent floods. A Flood Preparation Toolkit, designed to better prepare residents in flood-prone areas distributed to the public via social media, and MyDigi and Celcom Life apps. The toolkit, which is accessible HERE, provides information on necessary measures to take before, during, and after the floods. Targeted SMS were also sent to alert communities in high-risk areas.

Mindful that network availability is crucial especially during natural disasters, several efforts such as hardening sites at high-risk areas, preparing power generators and mobile base transceiver stations, were in place to reduce service disruption.

As the floods subside, volunteers are deployed to clean up the aftermath. Families returning home from the relief centres are provided with essential cooking items and food packs to help them through recovery phase.
