September 13, 2024

KOTA KINABALU, 13 September 2024 – In conjunction with the upcoming Hari Malaysia celebration, CelcomDigi Berhad (“CelcomDigi”) is inviting all Malaysians who are in Sabah this Sunday, 15 September 2024 to the launch of the state’s largest wall mural, located in the heart of the city at Jalan Pantai, Kota Kinabalu.

Known as “The Dreamer”, the mural art is the outcome of a collaboration between CelcomDigi and a local street artist, Wilson Ng. It captures the vibrant spirit of Sabah, featuring intricate details and vibrant colours, making it a riveting representation of the Sabah’s artistic and cultural essence.

The 1-day launch event that will take place at Jalan Pantai from 8.00am to 10.00pm is going to be packed with a variety of exciting activities.  Visitors to the event can look forward to an energetic Zumba session, exciting cultural dance and fire eating performances as well as live band shows by local artistes including other engaging attractions for both adults and children. They will also get the opportunity to engage with the mural artist.

“The Dreamer” embodies the ambition and hope of a young girl from a small city, dreaming of a bright future. With closed eyes, she envisions the opportunities that await her beyond her local borders, reflecting the spirit of Generasi 5G - the next generation of Malaysians empowered by 5G to transform and innovate the way they live, work and play.

This artwork highlights the important role of Internet connectivity in inspiring and encouraging individuals to explore new possibilities. It also signifies CelcomDigi’s commitment to empower the people of Sabah with connectivity, enabling them to connect to a world of opportunities on Malaysia’s widest and fastest network.

What makes “The Dreamer” more interesting are the elements that were integrated into the artwork, unique to the people of Sabah and they include:

  1. Mount Kinabalu - represented by the “Sirung”, the traditional Kadazan Dusun headgear which was worn by the girl in the artwork. This headgear is normally worn by the natives during festivals and harvest season, reflecting the Kadazan Dusun spirit and their rich harmony with the majestic peak.
  1. Sun Bear - the smallest bear species symbolises Sabah’s biodiversity and cultural heritage and the importance of having environmental stewardship for its survival. Wearing a pair VR goggles, the sun bear in the mural art represents the blend of heritage and innovation, showcasing Sabah’s tech potential.
  1. Rafflesia - the world’s largest flower symbolises Sabah's rich biodiversity and inspires local youth to overcome challenges. Its conservation fosters pride, encouraging careers in environmental fields and empowering the next generation to pursue sustainability and contribute to their communities.
  1. Hornbill - symbolises freedom, resilience, and the pursuit of dreams, inspiring the youth in Sabah to soar high, overcome obstacles, and embrace their unique paths to success.

Visitors can also get more details on the other elements embedded in the mural art as well as watching the mural coming to life via Augmented Reality (AR) by scanning the QR codes available at the site.

CelcomDigi wishes all Malaysians, Selamat Hari Malaysia! Together, we strive to create a brighter future for all!
