PETALING JAYA, 27 January 2025 – As we celebrate the upcoming Chinese New Year festivities, CelcomDigi Berhad (CelcomDigi) calls on Malaysians to reimagine our traditions and honour them with new and innovative ways.
Through a heartwarming festive tale, 传承 · 承传 (chuán chéng) which means "passing of a belief from generation to generation" takes us into the lives of a family deeply connected to the creation of a cultural pride symbol, the Cheongsam. The film highlights Blaze, the high-spirited youngest member of the family, who turns to technology to innovate in ensuring that a cherished family tradition continues despite an unfortunate incident. Her journey showcases how a new innovative approach with the help of digital technology and seamless connectivity transcends generational differences and bring new life into what used to be old traditional practices making them relevant to the present and future.
Through this short film, CelcomDigi celebrates how the Internet bridges generational gap, enabling different generations to learn and be better together. By blending heritage with innovations and the power of connectivity, CelcomDigi believes that traditions will live on as each new generation bridges cultural gaps, discovers forward-thinking ways to honour the essence of our heritage and makes it their own. Just like the Year of the Snake, which symbolises wisdom, intuition, and transformation, we are inspired by the snake's graceful adaptability to embrace transformation as the key to driving success.
This belief inspired CelcomDigi to engage young Malaysian talents, inviting them to share their interpretations of the festive season through the lens of their generation and translate them into red packet (angpao) designs. Four designs, which beautifully capture the essence of Chinese New Year while creatively blending cultural heritage with contemporary elements, were selected as CelcomDigi’s angpao designs for this year.
